Building on Double Date, Group Hangouts takes the group chat IRL by letting friends match and chat with other groups
LOS ANGELES — September 30, 2026 — Everything’s better with friends. That’s why today, Tinder is launching Group Hangouts, a new way to meet people with your friends by your side, so meeting someone new can feel less like an interview and more like doing something fun together.
Group Hangouts brings the group chat into the dating experience, giving friends a way to meet other groups around shared activities and interests. It’s the latest way Tinder is making dating with friends more fun, social, and easy to explore together.
Early signals suggest the format is resonating with users. In testing across Australia, 40% of Group Hangouts invitations were accepted1, an early indicator that users are bringing their friends into the experience. Once groups are formed, engagement increases significantly: women are 2.2x more likely to Like a group profile than a traditional one-to-one profile. This echoes a pattern Tinder first saw with Double Date, where women were nearly 3x more likely to Like a paired profile than a solo one2. Together, these findings reinforce a clear trend: social-first formats help foster greater comfort, confidence and engagement among women on Tinder.
"Double Date proved something we suspected all along, young singles want their friends in the mix when they're meeting someone new,” said Mark Kantor, Chief Product Officer at Tinder. “Group Hangouts takes that even further, and we think it's going to be one of the most fun things we've ever built on Tinder."
How Group Hangouts Works
Dating with Friends, Now with More Friends
Group Hangouts builds on the momentum of Double Date, which launched in June 2025 and quickly resonated with younger singles: 90% of users were under 30, and Double Date matches exchanged 35% more messages2. That response reinforced that young singles want more social, lower-pressure ways to meet someone new, with their friends along for the experience.
This time, Tinder's going bigger, expanding dating with friends from pairs to groups of three or more, with more flexible group sizes built in. Groups don't need to be the same size, because real friend groups never are. Group Hangouts adds another way to connect on Tinder, bringing friends and shared interest into the experience while keeping dating and romantic connection at the center.
Designed with Individual Choice and Safety in Mind
Every Group Hangouts participant needs their own Tinder account and profile, and members choose whether to join. Once a member has joined a group, they remain in control of their experience, with the ability to leave a conversation without leaving their friend group, and can block or report someone if they feel uncomfortable. Tinder’s existing Community Guidelines, moderation systems, and safety features apply to Group Hangouts, including Face Check™ where available.
Group Hangouts recommendations are personalized to each person’s existing discovery preferences. Tinder’s recommendation technology can prioritize groups with active plans and relevant activities, while people remain in control of inviting friends, expressing interest, and deciding whether to continue a conversation.
Availability
Group Hangouts is rolling out in phases. It is launching in the U.S. and select markets, with additional markets coming soon. Availability and timing may vary by market.
